HUMAN NATURE

Style, fashion, and beauty are merely reflections of a person’s deeper self-awareness and authenticity. By contrasting the chaotic nature of the fashion industry with a genuine sense of self, real style transcends trends and consumerism. Identity is the ultimate foundation of style.

Fashion is the physical form of what the soul looks like.

We predicted that the intertwining and the blurred lines of gender norms would evolve the construction of fashion. Intertwining both masculine and feminine technique to tell a story or personality.

At the core of human rights—and of any democratic society—is the idea that individual autonomy rests on the inviolability of the human body. Today, reclaiming our bodies means asserting control over how we choose to express ourselves physically. While politics may attempt to regulate our bodies, real empowerment comes from resisting that control.

THE JOURNEY:

As a group member, we had the discussion of the trends of fluidity. With the rise of social media and the rise of authenticity, we break away from the concentration of trends and forced societal standards and highlight the intertwining of what’s feminine and masculine.

Analyzed various fashion weeks across the world to gather insight on trends we’ve seen. Sought insight on consumer psyche and behaviors through various sources (Statista, WGSN, WWD, Vogue)

Main Trend Forecasts

In response to how COVID has shaped Generation Z’s psyche and unleashed creative coping mechanisms to make up for the world around them. With the political climate, social behaviors, and the ever-changing society, we determined that self-identity and authenticity was the zeitgeist. We predicted that the zeitgeist of inclusivity will have reached the early majority and shift into an era of body neutrality by redefining “anatomy”.

Human Nature involves itself in every body-type of contemporary society, adopting a “naturalistic” approach. With the variety of ways to show our bodies or sex appeal, fashion invokes fluidity of how artistic we can be with our bodies with both revealing outfits and intriguing quiet outfits.

In this approach, we predicted soft and lightweight fabrics such as lace, crochet knitwear, silks, and lace with construction that distorts the body. Our focus was blurring the lines between “masculine” and “feminine” fabrics and techniques into a new modern spin.

Outcome

This fashion week focused of soft bright earth mid-tones similar to our color forecast and sheer fabrics such as lace and tulle were huge in this weeks fashion week.

The pictures listed aside fit some of the forecasts such as lace, sheer fabrics, and more specifically breaking down the barriers of gender normative styling.

I learned a lot of challenges as I did this project but my biggest one was trying to forecast an overall fashion trend rather than creating a concept/story narrative for shoots. It helped me shift my focus from what I may want to create to responding to what the consumers want created.

I’ve gained great experiences from diving into research to the visual aesthetics refining my Adobe Creative Cloud skills, but more importantly, I learned how significant support from the people around you really is. My team and I led many discussions about the moral story behind this project helping me understand how they are as a person and what identity meant to them.
